Partial dentures to preserve natural teeth and enhance your smile

Partial dentures are a type of removable denture made to fill in gaps where an individual is missing natural teeth. Designed to fit precisely and seamlessly into gaps, they’re custom-fitted to an individual’s mouth and affixed with clasps to other teeth or suction to the gums.

Partial dentures are created through a process of taking impressions of the mouth, creating a mould in wax as a prototype, then casting in the chosen material when the design is finalised.

Offering the benefits of protecting remaining natural teeth and preventing them from shifting or drifting after an extraction, partial dentures can help you look, chew and feel better by complementing what you’ve already got.

Our mouths are as unique as we are, and finding the perfect fit for every person is crucial for partial dentures to look, feel and function at their best. So, we make your dentures over several appointments, first consulting with you to understand your needs, goals and preferences then customising until you’re 100% happy with them.

We also work with your other dental professionals including dentists, oral surgeons, prosthodontists and periodontists to help you achieve the best possible outcome.

If you have one or more natural teeth remaining to support a partial dental prosthetic, partial dentures could be the right solution for you.

Types of partial dentures

We offer several different types of partial dentures which offer different advantages.

We’ll consult with you to help you choose the right solution for you.

Chrome partial
dentures

Chrome dentures are particularly suited to people missing a number of natural teeth. Durable, strong and less bulky than traditional acrylic dentures, chrome partial dentures make a great alternative if you are looking to fill in gaps.

Compared with traditional pink acrylic partial dentures, chrome dentures are:

  • more hygienic for a healthy oral environment,
  • stronger and firmer in the mouth for a better chewing experience, and
  • less likely to impact speech

Chrome dentures are cast in the on-site Chrome Laboratory right here in our clinic.

Traditional acrylic
partial dentures

Acrylic partial dentures are ideal for people who have some natural teeth remaining. They can be easily changed, added to or converted to a full denture if you need to get more teeth removed.

Partial dentures can be used as a temporary solution to replace missing teeth while you’re awaiting dental implants, or as a permanent solution to fill in gaps between your remaining natural teeth.

Flexible plastic (Valplast)
partial dentures

Thinner, smaller and entirely wire-free, Valplast dentures offer flexibility for superior comfort and an almost undetectable appearance. Their high-strength, shock-absorbing nylon material makeup makes flexible plastic partial dentures virtually indestructible.

Flexible plastic or Valplast partial dentures are best suited to people missing a few of their natural teeth at the side or rear of the mouth.

Our process

What to expect when you get partial dentures.

STEP 1 - Consultation

We sit down with you and discuss how you would like your new dentures to look. This includes talking about tooth shape, colour, setting, function and anything else that might be important to you.

STEP 2 - Quote

We provide you with a quote with item numbers for your health fund, so you can easily determine your out-of-pocket expense.

STEP 3 - Impressions

We take an impression of any teeth you may have and your gums so we can start creating your new dentures, which will be custom-made just for you.

Depending on your preference, Steps 1, 2 and 3 can be completed in the same visit.

STEP 4 - Trial Fitting

This is the try-in stage. We set your teeth in wax, giving us the opportunity to review the cosmetics, bite and function of your new dentures. At this stage, we discuss any changes you might like. We encourage you to bring along a friend for this appointment to get their opinion of your new look.

STEP 5 - Denture Delivery Day

We fit your final dentures, checking for optimal fit, bite and overall comfort.

STEP 6 - Denture Review

This is the post-check. We want you to love your new dentures. We encourage you to come back for a final check once you’ve had the chance to wear them.
